This private tour will make you discover the Amalfi Coast, the beautiful coastline located South of Naples, world famous for the romantic scenery, the rich history, the charming towns and the excellent food.
A private driver will pick you up at your hotel in Naples (or other convenient location in the city center like the train station) with a luxury sedan or minivan. The itinerary will go along the scenic road of the Costiera Amalfitana as it is known in Italian, first to Sorrento the most ancient town on the coast with origins dating back to the 5th Century BC when it was a Greek colony. We will stop on a panoramic point to admire from above the town placed on a cliff right on the sea.
We will then reach Positano, a lovely and trendy town placed in a beautiful panoramic position overlooking the sea. The old center surrounds the church of Santa Maria Assunta with the dome made of the typical colorful ceramic tiles. Little alleys, with bars and shops selling typical products, lead down to the beach where you can sit down to have gelato or limoncello. The tour will continue along this romantic coastline where you can stop to take beautiful photos that will likely make all your friends at home very jealous. We will pass by the towns of Praiano and Conca dei Marini before arriving to Amalfi, the most important center of the coastline bearing its name.
The town has a glorious past when was one of the four Maritime Republics (together with Venice, Pisa and Genoa) between the 8th and 13th Century. It became a very popular tourist destinations since the 1920s when the British aristocracy started to enjoy the beauty of its sea. A walk starting from the port full of colored fishing boats will take you through the center to the beautiful cathedral of Sant’Andrea. The church, overlooking the lively Piazza Duomo, was built in the 12th Century and has a beautiful cloister where you can see the influence of the Arab culture on this part of Southern Italy. In Amalfi you will have time for lunch in a typical restaurant to enjoy the delicious local food.
If you wish it is possible to extend the tour and reach also Ravello. This lovely town sits on an elevated position of 315 meters above sea level. In the center you will visit the old palaces home of the local aristocracy, villa Ruffolo, Villa Cimbrone and the 11th Century Duomo. But Ravello is also famous for the breathtaking views over the sea and for the many noteworthy personalities that visited and loved the place, like Richard Wagner that in Ravello took inspiration to write the Parsifal. Please note that visting Ravello is optional at additional cost.
With the eyes full marvellous images of art and sea we will be heading back to your hotel in Naples (or to the train station).
