Description:

This private tour of the Appian Way will start at your hotel in Rome where you will meet your private guide and driver and they will take you to the first site of the itinerary Thermae of Caracalla.

Your guide will take you through the impressive remains of this great complex of ancient Roman baths, built during the reign of Emperor Caracalla they were among the biggest ever built. We will then head outside of the city along the Via Appia Antica, the ancient Appian Way. This road was one the oldest and most important of the ancient times. Here, surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful countryside, you will learn more about the grandiose history of Rome.

Along the Appian Way we will stop to visit the catacombs of San Sebastiano (or catacombs of San Callisto, depending on the day of closure). You will go inside to explore the underground site used as burial place by the ancient Christians. The itinerary will continue with the tomb of Caecilia Metella, one of the most famous landmarks of the Appian Road. At the end of the tour, the driver will take you back to your hotel in Rome.

The catacombs tour in Rome with my extended family was a lot of fun. We were picked up right at our hotel and got to see lots of out of the way places. The guide and driver were especially thoughtful with regards to my infant niece, helping her parents throughout when they had special needs.

We had a lovely combined tour of Ostia antica, baths of Caracalla and catacombs in Rome with our Polish guide Jowita. We opted for the agency's private transfer which worked out great because he was a careful and on time driver. The guide was beyond our expectations, she was not only charismatic and knowleadgeable but she was able to recreate a comprehensive picture of Ancient Roman life. A definite highlight from our trip to Italy. Organizing the trip with Andrea was very easy. Very recommended!
