Description:
This private walking tour of Milan is a great introduction to the city and to some of its most beautiful art treasures.
Milan is known as the business capital of Italy but is also very rich in art and culture. The itinerary with your private guide you will start at the Sforza Castle, built by the lords of Milan as a fortress and magnificent residence well worthy of an Italian noble family, with contributions made by Leonardo da Vinci as a military engineer (please note that unfortunately it is closed on Mondays).
Walking through the elegant streets of the city center we will reach the Scala Opera House. This temple of classic music was the stage of the greatest artists of every time, composers and directors like Verdi, Puccini, Toscanini; ballet dancers like Nureyev and opera stars like Pavarotti got here their greatest successes and the harshest critics. The piazza in front of the theater is the real cultural centre of the city and from there we will enter the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery. Built in the the 19th Century, rapidly became one of the favourite gathering places in the city thanks to his old fashioned cafeterias, luxury shops and prestigious restaurants, and is now known as “the city's living room”.
On the other side of the Galleria we will exit in Piazza Duomo. On this vast square lies the Duomo, the cathedral of Milan, the the third largest catholic church in the world, a massive tribute to the greatness of medieval Gothic architects. Inside you will learn about the misteries of this temple and its relation with the history of the city. The tour will end here, but if you wish it will be possible to take the elevator to the terraces on top of the cathedral to enjoy a magnificent view over the city.
It is possible to add the visit to the Cenacolo Vinciano to see the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most famous paintings in the world. To include it in your itinerary please make the selection by opening the options menu located inside the reservation box in the upper right of this page. Important: please note that there is very limited availability and admission is subject to confirmation (in case the visit is not possible we will inform you and a full refund will be given).
We suggest to add the visit to the Duomo rooftops by elevator. These terraces are on top of the cathedral and offer a spectacular view over the city (great for kids!). Unfortunately this acitivity is not suitable for people with mobility limitations. Please note that sometimes the descent may be done by the stairs.
If you wish to have a more indepth view of the many beautiful sites of Milan, you may extend the duration of this private tour by one hour, so the tour will be 4 hours long (you can make the selection from the options menu in the upper right of this page).
