Syracuse Daytrip from Taormina

Your day will begin with a private pick-up at your hotel or villa in the Taormina area by an English-speaking driver (for Catania, Messina or other pick-up locations please contact us for a quote). In about one hour and half you will reach Siracusa and will start visiting the archaeological site where you will see the Greek theatre that dates back to the 5th Century BC. Just beyond the theatre are the old stone quarries, which today is home to a wonderful, fragrant lemon orchard. The most interesting focal point of this area is the "Ear of Dionysius”, a 20m-high, pointed arch cut into the rock facade. There is also one of the largest Roman amphitheatres nearby and the Archeological Museum to visit.

Next, you will break for a typical lunch at a local restaurant (not included in the price of the tour, but we can help with suggestions and reservations). After lunch you will continue to the beautiful island of Ortigia where you will experience a wide variety of architectural styles: Greek and Roman remains, Mediaeval Norman buildings and some beautiful Baroque features. You will see such highlights as the fountain of Arethusa, the Temple of Apollo, Piazza Archimede, Piazza del Duomo, and the church of Santa Lucia, the city's patron saint.

If you wish, your private driver may also take you to a nearby beach for a swim (in this case there will be a shorter time spent in Siracusa). Always a good option during hot summer days!

At the end of the day, your driver will accompany you back to your hotel or villa in Taormina.
