Description:
This shore excursion from Livorno is designed for cruise passengers who like to visit Florence and Pisa in total comfort and without being part of a group.
In the morning a private driver will be waiting for you at the docks of Livorno’s port. With a luxury air conditioned sedan or minivan in about one and half hour you will reach the center of Florence and meet your guide to begin your private walking tour.
The itinerary will begin at Florence's cathedral, the basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower, also known as the Duomo. Just outside you will see the San Giovanni Baptistery and learn about the history of this octagonal building, one of the oldest of Florence. Right in front of it stands the campanile (bell tower) by Giotto, a slender structure that is a great example of Florentine Gothic architecture.
Going along Via Calzaiouli we will pass by Orsanmichele, the ancient granary of the city and reach Piazza Signoria, one of the most important squares of Florence. The square is dominated by the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) the town hall started in 1299 by Arnolfo di Cambio. The piazza is enriched by the Loggia dei Lanzi, with its many statues and by the fountain of the Neptune. The walk will continue through the courtyard of the Uffizi and heading towards the Arno river we will arrive to Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge.
If you wish we can also add the visit of the Accademia Gallery to see the David by Michelangelo, probably the most famous sculpture in the world. You may add this option with skip the line tickets in the reservation box (located in the upper right side of this page).
After the tour there will be time for a short lunch break in a typical restaurant in the old city center, your guide will be happy to give you some suggestions based on your preferences. If you wish and if time allows, your driver may take you up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a panoramic stunning view of Florence before leaving the city and heading to Pisa. In Pisa you will see the Piazza dei Miracoli, the great square where all the main historical buildings are located: the Leaning Tower, one of the most famous monuments in the world; the Baptistery, started in 1152, with the sculptures of Nicola Pisano; the magnificent Cathedral, built between the 11th and 12th century.
The main attractions are all located around the Miracoli Square so you will be able to comfortably do the visit on your own. If you wish to climb on top of the leaning tower, we will make for you the necessary advanced reservation. To add this feature, please select the option in the reservation box (upper right corner of this page). After the visit in Pisa your driver will take you back to the port of Livorno in time to board the ship.
The tour in Florence will be led by one of the guides of the KissFromItaly team. All our guides have graduate degrees in arts or history and are officially licensed by the Municipality of Florence (or any other city where they operate) and, most important, they are friendly and caring persons who will be happy to passionately share with you their knowledge about this amazing city.
Since this is a private tour, it is possible to choose the starting and finishing time based on the schedule of the cruise. Please note that on Mondays the Accademia Gallery is closed so it will not be possible to see Michelangelo’s David.
