Description:
This private walking tour is perfect for the visitor who wants to see the most beautiful sites of Florence in one day.
It includes the most beautiful sites of the historical center, the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Gallery.
The itinerary will begin at the Accademia Gallery to see the David by Michelangelo, probably the most famous sculpture in the world. Entering will be easy as we make reservations in advance to skip the long line at the entrance. A walk through narrow ancient streets will lead us the church of San Lorenzo, originally designed by Brunelleschi, with its fascinating unfinished facade. We will then stroll in the nearby covered market of San Lorenzo where many Florentines still come to do their daily shopping.
Few steps away lies Florence's cathedral, the basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower, also known as the Duomo. Just outside you will see the San Giovanni Baptistery and learn about the history of this octagonal building, one of the oldest of Florence. Right in front of it stands the campanile (bell tower) by Giotto, a slender structure that is a great example of Florentine Gothic architecture.
Going along Via Calzaiouli we will pass by Orsanmichele, the ancient granary of the city and reach Piazza Signoria, one of the most important squares of Florence. The square is dominated by the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) the town hall started in 1299 by Arnolfo di Cambio. The piazza is enriched by the Loggia dei Lanzi, with its many statues and by the fountain of the Neptune. The walk will continue through the courtyard of the Uffizi and heading towards the Arno river we will arrive to Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge. Because of its beauty and history this is the only bridge that was not destroyed by the Nazis during the World War II and stands today as one of the symbols of Florence.
Now there will be the time to enjoy a short lunch break in a typical local restaurant. After lunch we will continue our tour visiting the Uffizi Gallery where you will admire the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Caravaggio and many others among the most important masters of painting. Entering will be easy as we will buy in advance skip the line tickets.
The tour will be led by one of the guides of the KissFromItaly team. All our guides have graduate degrees in history or archaeology and are officially licensed by the Municipality of Florence (or any other city where they operate) and, most important, they are friendly and caring persons who will be happy to passionately share with you their knowledge about this amazing city.
