Description:
This private daytrip from Florence will make you explore the Chianti region, world known for excellent wine, delicious food, beautiful countryside and charming towns rich of art.
You will meet your private English speaking driver at your hotel to start this fabulous day trip through the hills of Chianti. Onboard a luxury sedan/minivan you will explore the heart of Tuscany where gentle hills have been covered by vineyards for many centuries. This beautiful countryside, dotted by Renaissance castles and medieval churches, is particularly famous for the production of wine and olive oil. Rightly famous is an official document issued in 1716 by Cosimo III Medici establishing the boundaries of the grape-growing areas that produce the Chianti wine and that are still respected today.
Along a scenic drive you will reach one of the oldest castles where the wine production is documented since 1596. Here you will visit the state, enter the ancient cellars, learn about the wine production process and finally enjoy the excellent wine. A wine tasting accompanied by appetizers will be done under beautiful frescoed ceilings.
After the visit your driver will take you to the town of Greve in Chianti, an historical crossroad of pilgrims and merchants among the valleys. Here you may stop for a pleasant stroll in Piazza Matteotti, the main square with a triangular layout. Here you will time to walk under the open porches and do some shopping of wine, oil, cheese, cured meats of the best quality and all locally produced.
Just a mile away from Greve you will visit to the quaint walled village of Montefioralle, overlooking vineyards and olive groves. The tiny village was in the past an important center along the Via Francigena, a pilgrims’ road which used to connect France with the Vatican. One of the residences along the circular main street of Montefioralle is pointed out as the birth-place of Amerigo Vespucci the explorer that gave the name to the American continent. The doorway is identified by a wasp ("vespa") and a “V”, symbols of the Vespucci family. You will then return to Florence accompanied by your driver along the “Road 222 Chiantigiana” to your hotel.
If you wish it is possible to enjoy a full lunch at the castle. To book this additional feature, open the options menu in the booking box in the upper right of this page and select the Lunch option.
