The town of Varenna is one of the nicest in the Lake Como area. Walking around you will find plenty of photo ops, especially if you take the passeggiata degli innamorati, the lovers’ walk, a narrow path built right on the water
5 - Villa La Cassinella
This magnificent villa is privately owned but it can be rented. If you are planning to stay on the lake for few days (and if budget is not a problem) it is highly recommended. An alternative (and less expensive) option is to rent a boat and see it from the water

Villa Carlotta is now an interesting museum but the best part is probably the botanical garden. Immersed in a lush vegetation with amazing views on the blue water of the lake, you will have tons of occasions for great shots

Located in Varenna, Villa Monastero is one of the most spectacular sites on the lake. It was built as a monastery in the 15th century and became later the home of rich merchants. If they named the most expensive hotel in Vegas after this town on Lake Como there must be a reason! Bellagio is small but really lovely. Walk through the little alleys, enter the old church, enjoy lunch at one of the many nice restaurants on the waterfront.

And the top spot goes to Villa Balbianello. Why? Because it is a gorgeous villa and it’s worth visiting the interiors and learn about the story of the family. Because the gardens are magnificent and offer spectacular views on the lake. And if this wasn’t enough to make all your friends jealous, you can also tell them that Villa Balbianello has been used as a shooting location for Star Wars Episode II. So make sure you will not leave before taking a photo at Padme’s terrace!
